2021 Jeep Cherokee Overview
Jeep is an iconic brand that makes some of the most beloved SUVs on the market. This includes small crossovers, such as the 2021 Jeep Cherokee and even smaller 2021 Jeep Compass. A recent survey of people who recently purchased or leased a new Cherokee or Compass revealed that most of them had considered both of these vehicles before making that choice. That inspired us to write a 2021 Jeep Cherokee vs 2021 Jeep Compass in the hopes that we can make that decision and easier one.

Exterior - Jeep Dealer serving Pueblo CO
The Compass is less expensive than the Cherokee but not by much. Most customers will make their decision based on how much vehicle they really need. The Compass measures 173.0 inches in overall length—approximately 14.5 feet—and stands 64.6 inches tall and 73.8 inches wide. The Cherokee, on the other hand, measures 182.0 inches in overall length—approximately 15.2 feet—and stands 66.2 inches tall and 73.2 inches wide. The Compass is clearly the smaller vehicle and if want to emphasis the smaller footprint due the area you are in, the Compass is a good option. But most of our team serving Pueblo Colorado Springs agree that the size difference is a non-factor for the average driver in our area.

Interior - 2021 Jeep Cherokee in Pueblo CO
A look at the interior from a practical perspective can also be invaluable in making your choice. Both of these are two-row five-passenger crossovers, but comparing the 2021 Jeep Cherokee vs 2021 Jeep Compass reveals that the Cherokee has more than 25% additional volume. What is perhaps surprising is that the Compass actually provides a bit more front headroom and legroom on paper, but they are the same for all intents and purposes. The Compass provides 38.3 inches of rear legroom, and while that is enough for adult passengers, the 40.3 inches in the Cherokee is valuable on longer trips. The Compass offers a bit more dedicated cargo space, and the Cherokee provides a tad more with the seats folded.

Technologies - Jeep Cherokee
Both models come standard with a Uconnect 4 infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera system and numerous bells and whistles. Most of the technologies available with the Cherokee are available with the Compass. The biggest difference is that you have access to them earlier in the lineup, and the Cherokee comes standard with a suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies.

Trim Levels - 2021 Jeep Cherokee dealer
Jeep uses many of the same names across its lineup for its trims, sub-trims and special editions, so you will definitely notice a bit of overlap in the comparison. Generally, you can make some presumptions about what a particular trim indicates across the entire Jeep lineup, but there are exceptions as well. The 2021 Jeep Cherokee is available in nine distinct trim levels: Latitude, Freedom, Latitude Plus, Altitude, Latitude Lux, 80th Anniversary, Limited, Trailhawk and High Altitude. The 2021 Jeep Compass is available in seven distinct trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Freedom, Altitude, 80th Anniversary, Limited and Trailhawk. The four differences are the Sport, Latitude Plus, Latitude Lux and High Altitude. The Sport is an economy trim offered with the Compass to provide consumers the most affordable option possible. The Latitude Plus is the Latitude with even more options than added by the Freedom trim. The Latitude Lux is a new trim that served as the basis of the 80th Anniversary trim for the Cherokee. Finally, the High Altitude is an alternative to the Limited that brings the Cherokee more in the luxury SUV space.
